A Halloween Story

(The picture above is an AI image.)

This is a story from Halloween 1970.  I was three years old, and I was dressed as a little witch for Halloween.  I don’t recall what my 6 month old baby brother was dressed as.  We were at my paternal grandparents house and someone wanted to take a picture of my brother and I together.  They wanted to put my brother in my lap and have me hold onto him for the picture.  I couldn’t believe that they really wanted to do this.  I guess I believed that my costume really turned me into a witch.  I felt certain that my brother would shriek and cry in terror when handed to a witch.  To my surprise, he was completely unfazed.  I had given a lot of credit to the comprehension of a six month old baby. 😂

This story makes me think about taking photographs of children.  It’s a good thing that I am not a mother of young children now.  I would have too many crazy ideas and one would be having photographs of their first and last day of each age.  These would be interesting comparisons and special photos.  The photographing would have to be done two days in a row with each age’s last day and first day.  I can imagine the little ones complaining, “Really, do we have to do this 2 days in a row?! 😛Why?!”

Well because the last day of one age and the first day of another are not the same day.  They are distinct and should have distinct photographs!  Fortunately, my days of raising young children are now a theme of reflection. 😂
